The Mission
"The promotion of livelihoods that improve the standard of living of the tribal and rural families through the establishment of self reliant and self sufficient communities with their full participation and cooperation"
The Strategy
CTRD addresses livelihood issues by working on the factors and forces that adversely affect the lives of the rural poor. To reduce the vulnerability of poor families powerful and focused interventions have been made to break the cycle of poverty. To improve the self-image of the poor families efforts have been made to allow them to control their own resources and livelihood options.
CTRD feels that our promotion of livelihoods is tangible and our impacts significant. Therefore CTRD concentrates on sustainable livelihood projects after careful analysis of the local environment in a scientific/rational way while making interventions that are relevant through our continued action, reflection and learning.
CTRD is working for the sustainable development of the tribal communities through our Integrated Tribal Development Programme (ITDP). This programme involves implementing activities to promote the health status of our beneficiaries, providing education to tribal children, a focus on economic activities that will improve their standard of living, community development projects and the empowerment of women.
We have been implementing the ITDP since January 1994 with the support of AWO International, Germany and now cover 60 tribal hamlets in and around the Pandalur taluk of the Nilgiris.
